The 5-star luxury, boutique hotel and spa Seaham Hall in Durham has unveiled three brand new suites, each inspired by the hotel’s enchanting gardens
Wellness breaks are calling. While so much of the existing hotel has been inspired by its coastal setting, the new suites draw their own inspiration from the luscious gardens that surround the property, with deep greens, autumnal browns and oranges, and earthy tones taking centre stage.
The new suites are the brainchild of Louise James of Blackthorn Design and are not only inspired by the gardens, but will offer views directly onto the gardens, evoking a sense of serenity and calm as soon as guests check in.
Seaham Hall is known for its colourful, design-led approach to accommodation, and these suites will be no different, offering a new experience for guests and an opportunity for them to see Seaham Hall from a different perspective, whether they be new guests or returning.
The three new suites will include one Executive Suite; a ground floor accessible room which will be fully compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act standards, including under pillow vibrating fire alarms and spacious ground-floor living.
Louise James, Blackthorn Design, commented: “We are adding two new luxury bedroom suite concepts to Seaham Hall. Both of these take their inspiration from becoming lost and enveloped in a magical natural place. The new rooms seek to provide the ultimate sanctuary and luxurious escape from daily life. A wild encounter with a magical version of reality – focusing on the present time and moment; a reconnection with nature, ourselves and each other.”
The Milbanke Suite (the accessible, executive room on the ground floor) will follow an ‘Enchanted Everglade’ theme, swathing guests in a rich autumnal colour palette of plums, golds and ochres.
Layer upon layer of texture; painterly mystical wallpaper, prairie style grasses adorn a statement headboard, sumptuous velvets, quilting, fringing, textured pink glass lighting and organic shaped sculptural furniture. Preserved floral arrangements add to the feeling of wildness and escapism.
The new suite is named after Sir Ralph Milbanke, who built Seaham Hall in the 1790s and whose daughter, Annabella Milbanke, married famous poet, Lord Byron. Sir Ralph Milbanke, a mine owner, was conscious of his social duties.
Active in welfare and safety projects for the miners, Milbanke was a consistent supporter in parliament of the abolition of slavery. Annabella was also a staunch supporter of social causes and was an active anti-slavery campaigner.
The two Junior Suites are equally emotive – following a ‘Midnight Wilderness’ theme, these suites will evoke the feeling of being lost in a lush enchanted moonlit woodland.
Fluid watercolour walls, a dramatic velvet headboard printed with cascading waterfalls and luxurious greenery offset by black timbers and a palette of jewel-like emerald green velvets, linens and glassware.
