The Wordrobe visits May Fair Kitchen for a lunch that’s just as stylish as it is sumptuous
In a city as fashion-centric as London, finding a menu that’s as chic as the clothing around you is the ultimate edible accessory – and May Fair Kitchen’s doesn’t disappoint.
A short stroll away from Green Park station, I visit the Mayfair hotspot with a friend on a rare sunny Thursday afternoon to try the restaurant’s exclusive London Fashion Week menu – a limited edition array of light salads, soups and cocktails.
The venue itself is intimate yet immediately welcoming – having recently undergone refurbishment, expect a sleek and modern interior with plenty of ambiance and the air of Mediterranean glamour. It’s notably relaxed – and the ideal spot for a lunchtime catchup.
The food
After settling in to our slick surroundings, it’s onto the food. 100% vegan, the LFW menu proves ideal for those watching both their health and their figures. I choose a rocket and pear salad paired with cured tofu and apple vinegar dressing – whilst my companion tucks into a pomelo and avocado salad with shallot dressing. The carefully chosen ingredients in each dish offered plenty of nutritional value despite being low calorie – whilst tofu is an excellent source of protein, pomelo (an unusual and pale citrus fruit) is fantastic for helping to improve digestion.
Light, refreshing and totally luscious – May Fair Kitchen knows how to dress a salad with designer flair, and both of our dishes offered interesting textures and invigorating taste – exactly what you’re after when dining on a hectic schedule.
We also ordered a small tapas dish of tuna tartare from the main à la carte menu to pair alongside – which was fantastically tender and equally sumptuous.
Running alongside the special menu for LFW was an equally glamorous selection of cocktails at The May Fair Bar named ‘The Love Collection’. We sip on Love – a delicious delight made with Pisco Aba, lemon juice, fresh basil, egg white and hibiscus tea that’s just as pretty as it was palatable.
The verdict
Stylish salads, slick service and a taste of five-star flavour. May Fair Kitchen puts on a real show and is ideal for the fashionista (and the foodie) anytime of the year.
