London’s most creative district is set to welcome a new hotel championing vision and design this spring
Calling all creatives. Montcalm East, an Autograph Collection Hotel, is set to open in Shoreditch this spring as part of Marriott International’s diverse collection of passionately independent hotels that champion values of vision, design and craft.
Situated in one of London’s most energetic and vibrant areas, the 288-room hotel will feature an all-day dining neighbourhood restaurant from East London restaurant team, Barworks along with bespoke artwork and sleek interiors.
Occupying a prime position between Shoreditch and the City, just a short stroll from Old Street, Montcalm East’s iconic futuristic façade is one of the area’s most striking architectural landmarks.
Heavily influenced by the work of ‘Op-Art’ pioneer Bridget Riley, the exterior acts as an optical illusion, setting the tone for the creative experience even before guest arrival.

Inside the hotel, Shoreditch-based design studio Blacksheep have taken inspiration from the pioneering heritage of the area and the different perspectives that influenced it.
Think geometric shapes, muted colour tones and fresh, calming spaces. Guestrooms are flooded with natural light, with many offering floor-to-ceiling city views for an added touch.
Providing pops of colour, the bespoke artwork in the rooms is a play on the trademark street art posters of Shoreditch. The spacious bathrooms feature rain showers and luxury ethical bath products made by The Soap Co. – a local brand that employs, trains and supports people with disabilities to build skills, confidence and independence.
Fuelling guests with no-nonsense food and drinks, East London restaurant creators Barworks will lead Moor & Mead, an informal restaurant and bar. With a name that is rooted in the history of the area, blending the Moor from local institutions such as Moorfields Eye Hospital with the Mead as a nod to its breweries, the restaurant is set to be a stylish hub for locals.
Adding to the experience will be a series of cultural events and partnerships, designed to inspire guests and provoke exciting conversations. There’s also fun to be had at the hotel’s own PhotoLab, which pays homage to the old school point-and-shoot style photography style. Here guests can become the creators, capturing their own unique moment on film before developing it.
Montcalm East has worked with art curators CULTURE A to commission a selection of thought-provoking artwork, with a focus on local East London and emerging talent. A partnership with critically acclaimed Pop Art specialists Proud Galleries will see the Mezzanine level adorned with works by legendary photographers who continue to capture the most iconic people, moments and trends defining pop culture.
Bringing a new perspective on how to stay in the capital, Montcalm East is ready to connect its guests to storied streets, immersive experiences and an eclectic community.
