Insider’s Glimpse At The Ski Lodge, Opening in Verbier This December

Calling all snow bunnies. Here’s everything a luxury traveler needs to know about The Ski Lodge, an exciting new 36-room boutique hotel opening  in the centre of Verbier this December

Combining spa with all things ski, The Ski Lodge is a new 36-room boutique hotel in the centre of Verbier, opening December 2026 with two ideas at its heart: a luxurious spa, and somewhere exciting to be after dark.

Putting wellness at its core, the state-of-the-art spa has an indoor swimming pool, cold plunge, sauna, hammam and a relaxation area; The Listening Room, the hotel’s bar, is open to guests and locals alike until late, with cocktails and DJs on the weekend. At The Peak, Peruvian-born chef Mario Paiva brings a taste of the Americas to Verbier, with an NYC brasserie-style menu.

Most ski hotels are built around the day on the mountain. The Ski Lodge has a philosophy about what happens after a day on the slopes: proper recovery, delicious food, good company and comfortable rooms designed for rest, not simply somewhere to sleep. The feel throughout is understated alpine living rather than showy – quiet luxury, not glitz.

The hotel sits in the centre of Verbier, one of the Alps’ original and most enduringly stylish resorts, with 410km of slopes and some of Europe’s best off-piste and freeride terrain on the doorstep.  The hotel will offer skiing, snowboarding, wellness, recovery and culture in winter, then hiking, mountain biking, golf and paragliding across the mountain’s trails once the lifts close for the summer.

The Ski Lodge has been designed to work quietly with its environment rather than against it. Renewable district heating, integrated photovoltaic panels, underfloor heating, and carefully engineered ventilation systems are all woven discreetly into the experience, allowing comfort, efficiency, and long-term performance to exist without interruption.

The Ski Lodge is a privately owned hotel run by locals, not an outside hotel group – people with genuine, first-hand knowledge of Verbier.  The hotel is founded by Frédéric Mydske, a real estate developer who grew up skiing in Verbier and previously founded the Swiss aparthotel brand BASE.

“I grew up skiing these mountains, and every good day in Verbier ends the same way –  tired, but happy, and looking for somewhere good to land.  The Ski Lodge is the kind of hotel guests come back to, for the evening as much as the morning,” commented Frédéric Mydske, founder, The Ski Lodge, Verbier.

Supported by Frédéric is General Manager Joséphine Rausis, who grew up in the valley just below Verbier and brings a background in luxury hospitality across Europe and Latin America. Joséphine explains:  “What sets The Ski Lodge apart is the experience itself. It’s a deliberately intimate, 36-key boutique hotel centred around quiet, understated luxury. By design, there are no TVs in the rooms. We want guests to properly disconnect, be present in the mountains, and enjoy a different kind of stay than they would find elsewhere in Verbier. The spa completes that experience, with an indoor pool, sauna, hammam, a relaxation area and three treatment rooms, giving guests a proper place to unwind after a day on the mountain.”

The Concept

With 36 keys, The Ski Lodge is one of Verbier’s more intimate hotels. Rooms combine understated alpine style with a high level of comfort – natural textures, warm lighting and, in every room, no television – nothing to do but switch off and unwind. It is designed less as a base to sleep in between ski days and more as a proper destination for the parts of a mountain holiday that don’t happen on the slopes.

The design takes its cue from the historic mayens (chalets) of the Valais region – stone below, timber above – with aged larch wood, mineral textures and filtered light throughout. The resulting look is warm and chalet-inspired, rather than sleek or minimalist: intimate and lived-in, with every space given its own character, from the fireside lounge to The Spa.

The Rooms

There are four categories of rooms and suites at The Ski Lodge: 18 Cosy rooms, 12 Deluxe rooms, 4 Mountain Suites and 2 Mountain Suite Terraces. Many rooms include a bunk nook above the king-size beds, adding flexibility for a third or fourth guest without changing the feel of the room.

The Mountain Suites and Mountain Suite Terraces face south, with views of the Grand Combin and Mont-Rogneux, and the Terrace rooms add a private outdoor terrace. Throughout, the finish is the same: warm larch panelling and natural materials.

The Spa

Every stay includes access to the hotel’s Spa, which has an indoor swimming pool, a cold plunge pool, a Japanese Onsen jacuzzi, a sauna, a hammam and three treatment rooms for massages, facials and body therapies. External day passes will also be available. The programme includes seasonal events, alongside a fully equipped fitness room for strength and conditioning work.

The Spa has partnered exclusively with the Swiss premium niche brands Alpeor and Niance, whose highly curated product ranges are reserved for in-cabin treatments and selected retail. Their formulations are incorporated into signature facials, massages and other bespoke treatments, while a carefully curated selection is available for guests to purchase and continue the experience at home. Both brands draw on certified organic alpine plants and pure water sourced directly from the Swiss Alps and are 100% Swiss made. An own-branded Ski Lodge amenity line – shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap and body lotion –  is also available.

The Peak
Meals are served at The Peak, the hotel’s restaurant, led by head chef Mario Paiva. Originally from Peru, Mario has twelve years’ experience as a chef across Peru, the United States (The Ritz-Carlton Beach Resort), Bermuda (The St. Regis), Dubai (W) and Switzerland. His international background shapes his approach at The Ski Lodge, built on bringing different cultures, techniques and ingredients together.

Concierge
A dedicated on-site concierge is available to guests through the winter season, arranging everything from transfers and restaurant bookings to activities around Verbier, from ski lessons to heli-skiing.

Sustainability
The Ski Lodge also proudly holds Minergie certification, Switzerland’s leading sustainable building label, and is in the process of obtaining Swisstainable certification, the country’s national sustainable tourism label.

Beyond the Season
The ski lifts usually run from late November to the end of April. The Ski Lodge follows the same rhythm, open from December to the end of April, then reopening for summer from early June to the end of September. In the warmer months, the region opens up for hiking (more than 500km of trails, from gentle family routes to serious alpine terrain), (E)MTB trails winding through the valley, golf, and paragliding from Les Ruinettes down to Le Châble.

Ski season: lifts typically run late November to end of April. The Ski Lodge is open mid-December to end of April, reopening early June to end of September.
