If you love idyllic escapes, it’s time for a visit to Abbaye de la Bussiere, a petite hotel nestled in the heart of Burgundy
Originally a 12th Cistercian monastery, Abbaye de la Bussiere is a 20 bedroom luxury hotel found in the heart of Burgundy, located between Dijon and Beaune, and next to the Burgundy canal.
Set in 17 acres of beautifully renovated gardens, this French hideaway makes the ultimate romantic escape for gourmands this summer.
The former 12th century abbey offers two restaurants, including the Michelin-starred ‘The 1131’ and a more relaxed bistro, which make Abbaye de la Bussiere ideal for a mouth-watering weekend getaway.
Sensitively renovated by its British owners, the building’s original features are impossible to ignore. Marvel at the double-height vaulted ceilings and tiles as you enter the hotel, from the hand-etched glass panels to the frescos in the dining rooms.
Full of character, the hotel’s bedrooms and suites range in size and style, but each comes complete with sumptuous soft furnishings and antique furniture, as well as striking views of the park.
For those who enjoy exploring, the hotel is only a a short drive from the famous Cote d’Or vineyards, and close to the homes of some of the world’s finest wines including Gevrey Chambertin, Meursault and Pommard.
Guests can head off for some wine tasting, before indulging in chef Guillaume Royer’s fabulous signature menu – which features seasonal ingredients from local artisan food producers and farmers.
