Japan is calling. From serene coastal escapes to historic mountain retreats, Hoshino Resorts has announced a number of new openings in 2025 and beyond from its OMO, KAI and RISONARE brands
This strategic expansion reflects the company’s commitment to offering immersive, culturally rich experiences in both iconic and lesser-known regions of the country – from serene coastal escapes to historic mountain retreats.
Exciting developments for KAI – the award-winning brand of traditional hot spring ryokans – include the much-anticipated reopening of KAI Hakone, set for 1 August 2025, while the brand will make its Gunma Prefecture debut with the opening of KAI Kusatsu in spring 2026.

KAI Hakone reopens 1 August 2025
Nestled along the serene Sukumo River in Hakone Yumoto, the newly renovated KAI Hakone reopens its doors on 1 August 2025. Embracing the region’s cultural heritage, the renovation introduces Hakone-esque roomsadorned with traditional craftsmanship, including local marquetry (the art of applying pieces of veneer to furniture to form decorative patterns) and Yosegi-zaiku woodwork.
Highlights include two luxurious 110m² suites with private baths, the interactive Zuku-biki Experience where guests can try their hand at marquetry and the new Sawa Chaya tea house, a tranquil courtyard sanctuary for guests to enjoy seasonal teas.

KAI Kusatsu opening in Spring 2026
Marking the debut of the KAI brand in one of Japan’s most celebrated hot spring destinations, KAI Kusatsu is set to open in spring 2026 in the heart of Kusatsu Onsen. Perched on a hillside with sweeping views of Mount Kusatsu-Shirane, the 94-room retreat will offer a peaceful stay surrounded by nature but with easy access to the vibrant town centre and its famous hot spring attractions via a unique private tunnel. Reservations are expected to open in autumn 2025.
OMO Hotels celebrates two new openings in 2025/26, including OMO5 Yokohama Bashamichi in late 2025 and OMO7 Yokohama in spring 2026.
OMO5 Yokohama Bashamichi by Hoshino Resorts
Hoshino Resorts’ city tourism hotel brand, OMO, will open OMO5 Yokohama Bashamichi in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, in the winter of 2025/26. The hotel will be located within an ultra-high-rise mixed-use building directly connected to Bashamichi Station, boasting an outstanding view overlooking the bay area and the entire Yokohama cityscape.
OMO7 Yokohama
Hoshino Resorts will open OMO7 Yokohama in spring 2026 on the site of the former Yokohama City Hall, near JR Kannai Station. The project will preserve and repurpose the former city hall, designed by renowned Showa-era architect Togo Murano, into a legacy hotel that blends historic architecture with modern design. Hoshino Resorts aims to preserve and restore elements of the building’s original design, including the grand staircase and Taizan tile art, to maintain Yokohama’s architectural heritage, with an exhibition area showcasing the history of the property.
Positioned between historic downtown areas and modern tourist zones, the hotel provides an ideal base for exploring Yokohama and will offer the OMO brand’s distinct Go-Kinjo services including local guides (OMO Rangers) and maps highlighting off-the-beaten-path restaurants, shops and other sights. Reservations will open in October 2025, with the official launch in spring 2026.
Finally, Hoshino Resorts’ resort hotel brand RISONARE, has revealed more information on the opening of its eighth property, Hoshino Resorts RISONARE Shimonoseki, which is set to open on 11 December 2025, and ninth property, RISONARE Fukui, due to open in 2027.
Hoshino Resorts RISONARE Shimonoseki
RISONARE Shimonoseki, will open its doors on 11 December 2025, marking the brand’s debut in the Kyushu-Yamaguchi region. Located in Arukapoto, Shimonoseki City, the hotel is inspired by the Kanmon Strait and symbols of the local culture, including the native “fugu” or pufferfish. Various activities and experiences will enable guests to enjoy the dynamic waterfront location – from local fishing culture to cruising and port town life.
RISONARE Fukui to open in 2027
RISONARE further expands into the Hokuriku region and Fukui Prefecture with the autumn 2027 opening of RISONARE Fukui in Katsuyama Dinosaur Forest, near one of the world’s major dinosaur museums. Collaborating with the dinosaur park to create unique and memorable experiences, this partnership aims to enhance the appeal of the park and promote tourism in Fukui.
The hotel design will blend seamlessly with the rich natural environment of Nagao Mountain, which is home to precious flora and fauna, with a cylindrical design reminiscent of pinecones (inspired by the forest of Japanese red pine trees that grow in clusters on Nagao Mountain). The hotel will take advantage of this rich natural environment, offering views that envelop guests in the seasonal changes and a variety of outdoor activities.
