First Look At Long Lane, West Sussex’s Hottest New Wellness-Led Hotel

Opening summer 2026, Long Lane is an extensive renovation project in Midhurst combining a luxury hotel experience with an intricate wellness-led mindset

Located in 55 acres of national park forest, Long Lane is reimagining Dunford House, a Grade II listed 19th century property, as a luxuriously tranquil hotel and member’s club.

Principally a bold movement, founded by serial entrepreneurs and childhood friends Harrison Hide and Louie Blake, this new opening aims to challenge burnout, toxic habits and outdated alcohol-fuelled socialising whilst championing longevity, mindful living and climate-conscious choices.

The private member’s club will be the first sober club in the UK. The restaurant will be open to the public as well as select cultural and wellness programming.

Founder, Louie Blake told The Wordrobe: “We’ve been working on this project with the local council, regional experts and local businesses for over a year, and have been slowly building a following on social media. Throughout that process, we’ve been actively polling our community and speaking with local residents to understand what they’dgenuinely like to see at Long Lane. Our aim is to create something that feels rooted in the area and shaped by the people who live here. We’re excited for Long Lane to become a new hub just outside London, offering something considered and complementary to this beautiful part of the UK.”

Founder, Harrison Hide added: “When I first spent time at the site, I immediately felt a sense of calm, it’s the kind of place where you naturally slow down and breathe a little deeper. West Sussex has a rare tranquillity that feels increasingly hard to find, especially after years spent in big cities. What we’re creating at Long Lane is intended to be a true haven for both locals and visiting guests, somewhere people can reconnect, reset and feel genuinely at ease.”

Wellness-led facilities

The 20 bedrooms, in the main house, have been designed in collaboration with acclaimed wellness design studio Szczepaniak Teh. Ten larger forest cabins further extend the experience into nature with immersive, circadian-aligned stays surrounded by woodland.

Long Lane will be home to the world’s first Precision Nutrition Restaurant. The alcohol-free space will offer adaptogenic drinks from the Elixir Bar and onsite Herbal Distillery, overseen by Farmacy London, while natural dining experiences with wild ingredients and open-fire cooking will take advantage of the site’s extensive woodlands.

Providing guests with a fully immersive experience, the cultural programming will include events, workshops and classes featuring world-class visiting practitioners, talks from eminent thinkers, woodland sound healing sessions, art exhibitions and retreats that fuel the soul.  There will also be Cobden historical days.

The Member’s Club

Overseen by member’s expert, Jamie Caring, the private members’ club at Long Lane is poised to redefine the market standard. Each member’s journey will begin with comprehensive biometric and DNA methylation testing, forming the foundation for a fully tailored and unique Long Lane experience.

Caring added: “With any great Club, it’s local people that make it their home, and Long Lane will be no exception. We’ve created a diverse and eclectic committee of connected locals, from all walks of life, to help us foster an exceptional community of Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire members that are passionate about healthy living.

That foundation will be constantly energised by a flow of members and guests from further afield, bringing fresh ideas, perspectives and momentum. We are also working on a local bursary scheme, which we’ll share more details about very soon.”

There will also be an app where members will gain real-time insights from DNA results, enabling hyper-personalised programmes that shape nutrition, treatments and movement. Membership options range from flexible access for rejuvenation and community, through to the all-inclusive Longevity Membership, unlocking the full spectrum of Long Lane’s pioneering ecosystem.

Local Partnerships – Championing Biodiversity & Heritage

  • With a heritage dating back to 1550, Long Lane’s land is part of South Downs National Park and existing family-run estates and working farms – Downlands and Cowdray. Together the teams will honour sustainable and regenerative practices and work together to protect the land
  • Long Lane’s 30-year ecological restoration plan, led by conservationist Andy May, regenerates the site’s woodlands and biodiversity:
    • New Aquatic Habitat: A natural cold-water pool introduces a thriving wetland ecosystem
    • Woodland Restoration: Three woodland parcels will undergo phased renewal to improve structure and species diversity (reintroducing native trees). Actions include invasive species removal, deer management, and deadwood creation for fungi and invertebrates
    • Long-term Monitoring: Continuous assessment ensures biodiversity improvement and resilience across the estate.
  • Together with Nick Cobden-Wright (descendant of Richard Cobden) the Long Lane team are protecting the heritage and cultural significance of the property
    • Dunford House is a Grade II listed Italianate style country home
    • Originally built for politician Richard Cobden (a Liberal politician and campaigner for free trade and peace) it served as a hub for Victorian liberalism, peace and women’s rights
  • The restaurant is working with local B Corp institution – The Ethical Butcher – founded by Farshad Kazemian and Glen Burrows. They are disrupting the conventional meat industry by focusing on regenerative agriculture, high animal welfare and working with complete transparency. Long Lane will collaboratewith the team to help reconnect people with their food sources and minimize environmental impact
