Insider’s Look at Chef Nancy Silverton’s New London Pizzeria

The award-winning U.S. chef is returning to London to open the first UK outpost of her famed Los Angeles restaurant this August at Treehouse Hotel London

Opening its doors (and dough) on August 17th, acclaimed Chef Nancy Silverton is set to launch Pizzeria Mozza as part of Treehouse Hotel London, the playful and nostalgic hotel brand which debuted in 2019 in the heart of London’s Marylebone.

This will be the first UK restaurant from internationally recognised Nancy Silverton, who is co-owner of Pizzeria Mozza, Michelin starred Osteria Mozza and chi SPACCA as well as the founder of La Brea Bakery in Los Angeles. Pizzeria Mozza will be the latest addition to Treehouse Hotel London’s food and beverage portfolio (Madera, The Nest in Treehouse, Backyard), and the restaurant will be located adjacent to the hotel on the ground floor on Regent Street.

Not only winner of the James Beard Foundation’s highest honour – the ‘Outstanding Chef Award’ – in 2014, Nancy Silverton was also listed as one of the ‘Most Innovative Women in Food and Drink’ by both Fortune and Food & Wine magazines in the same year. In 2017, Nancy was profiled in an episode in the third series of Netflix’s popular docu-series, ‘Chef’s Table’. Nancy has also ‘penne’d nine cookbooks, including ‘Breads from La Brea Bakery’ – the birthplace of the artisan bread movement in the U.S.

An international extension of its U.S. counterpart, Pizzeria Mozza in London will embody Nancy’s simplistic yet uncompromising approach to the art of bread-making, pizza and hospitality. On the menu, a number of Pizzeria Mozza’s much loved pizzas – famed for their unique dough recipe and well-structured crusts – as well as a selection of meat and fish dishes, all in celebration of the plentitude and vibrancy of seasonal produce and ingredients available in the UK.

With a focus on locally sourced, premium, seasonal produce, dishes will include Antipasti such as Salt Cod Fritti, Celeriac, Remoulade, and Horseradish; Shrimp with Melon, Mint, and Chilli Lime Vinaigrette and Squash Blossoms Fritti with Ricotta. The menu will also offer traditional Italian-inspired salads and a choice of locally sourced salamis and mozzarella, as well as daily specials including Stuffed Shells with Spinach and Ricotta for Meatless Mondays, and a fish special for Fish Fridays.

Mouth-watering pizzas will range from the traditional, such as Margherita (Mozzarella di bufala, tomato, basil & extra virgin olive oil) and Napolitana (Tomato, mozzarella di bufala, olives, anchovies, chili flakes & fried capers), to the unconventional, including Clams, Red Onion, Garlic, Parsley, Pecorino Romano, and Nancy’s own take on a Hawaiian: Pizza alla Benno (speck, pineapple, jalapenos, tomato & mozzarella).  Coming soon on weekends, the menu will offer an array of tempting Italian-inspired brunch dishes, including Torta rustica with bacon, potatoes, caramelized onions, thyme & fontina; Brisket or oxtail hash al forno and Two olive oil fried eggs, pork sausage, roasted tomato & fried ceci (chickpeas).

The menu will also be available to take away for those looking to satisfy cravings on the go.

Whilst pizza is the star of the show, don’t skip on dessert – particularly the famed chef’s very own brand of ice cream: ‘Nancy’s Fancy’, which will be on the menu in the London restaurant. Nancy’s Fancy ice cream will be available to grab and go, served ½ kilos and full kilo tubs.

When it comes to interiors, guests can expect an escapism-minded oasis carefully designed by London-based Ward & Gray to transport diners to a wild Mediterranean garden upon entry. The restaurant design echoes Treehouse Hotel London’s character, with lush interior planting and trees, and trailing vines crawling up white plaster walls.

Treehouse Hotels, the ‘little sibling’ of renowned mission-driven brand 1 Hotels has a shared commitment to sustainability across its sites. Partnering with Nancy Silverton was a natural fit for this new venture as her work is rooted in great hospitality and sustainable practises.

In 2020 Silverton’s Osteria Mozza received The Michelin Guide’s Green Star distinction, awarded to just seven restaurants in the U.S. for their commitment to sustainable gastronomy. Pizzeria Mozza London builds on a long-standing relationship between the two parties, and follows Nancy’s recent work with 1 Hotel Central Park, where she hosted a sustainable “supper that sustains us” alongside long-time friend, colleague and celebrated Chef, Jonathan Waxman to honour Earth Day 2019.

Nancy commented, “Opening here at the Treehouse in Marylebone is like a wonderful homecoming for me..  In 1977, 44 years ago, I was a student at London’s revered Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School, mere  blocks away on Marylebone Lane and now I am back with my Pizzeria Mozza. It just feels right and I am determined to make my alma mater proud of their former student.  (Let’s just keep that 44 years part between you and me.)”

Ayo Akinsete, Area Managing Director of SH Hotels & Resorts: “It is our great privilege to be finally opening Pizzeria Mozza in London with Nancy – we have known each other for a long time now, and this has been years in the making. After all that our industry has been through over the past year, opening a new restaurant feels more exciting than ever, and we cannot wait to get our first guests through the door.”

Matt Erickson, President of Food & Beverage at SH Hotels & Resorts: “In LA, both Pizzeria Mozza and Nancy are extremely popular and their success is unparalleled. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring Nancy and this amazing brand over the pond to our guests in London.”

Opening this August for dinner only. Lunch and brunch services to be announced at a later date. Find out more and make a booking here.
