The festive season is now in full swing (or just around the corner, depending on when you’re reading this), which means it is time to crack open those Christmas playlists on Spotify and jam to your heart’s content. You know, the traditional stuff. However, if you’re looking for something a bit more unique to do this festive season, we have some ideas to share that you can enjoy at home.
To completely spice up the Christmas period, all you need is a computer or a smartphone. Here are a few things to try:
Attend an online concert or play

This is something that has really ramped up in recent years. A lot of musicians are running digital concerts nowadays, especially around the holiday season. You might be able to grab a ticket to see a fantastic choir, or somebody crooning out some Christmas classics. There are also a few plays online nowadays too, and you can even catch a viewing of a pantomime.
Watch holiday movies with your friends using the ‘Watch Party’ feature

Lots of streaming services nowadays have a ‘watch party’ feature, which allows you to sync up your movie playing with friends and family members around the world. So, why not give that a whirl? It doesn’t have to be a classic Christmas movie either. Why not choose one of those generic Christmas movies? You know the ones that always have the same actor and the same basic plot line and script, but an ever so slightly different setting. Get a video chat going and absolutely slate that video!
Sign up for an online cooking class
This is The Wordrobe, and we love our food. While we do prefer eating out, a couple of fantastic bites to eat at home wouldn’t go amiss. You’ll be pleased to know that many cookery schools now offer online cooking or baking classes, so why not learn to create a particularly scrumptious holiday meal? Or at least a snippet of it. While this wouldn’t be 100% online, as you do need to go and grab a few ingredients, at least you won’t need to drag yourself to an actual cookery class.
If food is not your thing, you could check out crafting courses instead. We have found a few decent ones that allow you to learn how to create holiday decorations, including wreaths.
Play some online games

Plenty of online games get into the Christmas spirit throughout the month of December, so why not dive into your favourite online games and see what goodies await you? It is even a great time to have some fun with your friends too.
If you’re a gambler, then you might want to try out one of the many Christmas-themed slot games that seem to be around nowadays. They tend to be easy to understand, and they’ll really get you in the festive mood. You will likely be pleased to learn that many online casinos are offering Christmas free spins as a bonus, which means you can enjoy some slots for even less.
Set up a trivia night with your family

This is something I love to do. Trivia nights always go down a treat at Christmas. While it is always best to have them in person, sometimes people can’t make those events or dedicate the hours to socialisation during the event. So, why not have one online? Video chats are great for this, and you can even pull in those people who might live a bit further afield. Crack open a few drinks and have fun.
If you look online, you’ll no doubt find hundreds of quizzes you can run. I personally love making my own quiz for my family. I know what questions they are likely to know the answers to, and what they will enjoy chatting about the most. You only need 20-30 questions, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to put one together.
Spice up your video chats
This might not be for you if you work in a professional setting, but if you regularly have video calls, particularly with friends and family, why not make use of the numerous Christmas video filters you can dabble with? Spread the holiday cheer a little bit. Just avoid getting too annoying with them.
If you have Snapchat, then you can even send some amazing videos to your friends and family members using whatever filters Snapchat has up its sleeve this year. If you’re more of the TikTok generation, then you’ll probably find something similar there too.
Send digital Christmas cards
While it is always nice to get a Christmas card through the mail, digital ones can be fun too. Not only do they typically cost absolutely nothing to send, but you can spruce them up a little bit more. You could include a couple of pictures of yourself in a holiday pose, share a jaunty message for the Christmas season, or provide a few updates on your life. There is a plenty you can do with them!
