Sketch Announces Special Menu & ‘chef Pierre Bear’ To Celebrate The Release Of The Taste Of Things, A New Film By Tràn Anh Hung
Celebrate your love of food with sketch

sketch has debuted two special, limited edition, offerings to mark the release of The Taste of Things, and celebrate the involvement of their long-time French Masterchef, Pierre Gagnaire, as the film’s Gastronomic Director.
The Taste of Things follows peerless cook, Eugenie, who has worked for the famous gourmet, Dodin, for the last 20 years. As time goes by, a mutual admiration for cooking and practice of gastronomy develops into a deep romance. Their relationship gives rise to dish after dish, each one more delicious than the last, until – fuelled by his affections – Dodin does something he has never done before: cooks for her.
Pierre Gagnaire, who also makes an on-screen appearance in The Taste of Things, has been at the helm of the kitchens at sketch since its inauguration in 2002. It was Pierre’s first project beyond Paris where he continues to run his eponymous three-Michelin-star restaurant “Pierre Gagnaire”. In 2019 the Lecture Room & Library at sketch was awarded three Michelin stars, the highest accolade in the culinary world and it retains this status today.
Naturally, a film which required such meticulous attention to detail and deep understanding of gastronomy required the attention of a Gastronomic Director such as Pierre Gagnaire.
The Taste of Things Menu at the Gallery
Until March 11th, the Gallery at sketch will offer guests the opportunity to experience a menu inspired by the iconic dishes portrayed on screen. The three course menu includes Dodin’s Cocotte, scallop mousse, veal sweetbreads, langoustine, Paris mushrooms, green olives and veal leather and Le Grand Pot Au Feu, a stew of premium meat cuts, poached foie gras and vegetables, Paris mushrooms and onion fondue in a red wine reduction, with fresh horseradish.
Eugenie’s Pear, a dish of caramelised pear, liquorice ice cream, panna cotta, chocolate biscuit, caramelised almond, chocolate ganache and muscovado tuile, completes the menu, which can also be enjoyed with a specially curated selection of paired wines.
The Chef Pierre Bear with Merrythought:
In celebration of the film’s release, sketch has partnered with Merrythought to create a limited edition of Teddybears in honour of Pierre Gagnaire. The Chef Pierre Bear is adorned in the same chef’s outfit that Pierre wore in The Taste of Things.
Each bear is individually numbered as part of a limited edition of 250, and has a certificate of authenticity; they come presented in a luxury gift box. Merrythought is the last remaining British teddy bear manufacturer and to this day the bears continue to be handmade in the company’s original factory in Shropshire. Merrythought bears are handcrafted from the finest natural materials.
When: The Taste of Things special set menu will be available at the Gallery in sketch until March 11th. Three courses £75 + paired wines at £60. Reservations here. The Chef Pierre Bear by Merrythought is available on the sketch shop now in a limited edition run of 250 bears. £300 available here.

Get ready to plate up for The Oystermen’s new restaurant in Covent Garden: thirty7

Excitement is building in Covent Garden as founders of critically acclaimed restaurant, The Oystermen, Matt Lovell & Rob Hampton; announce plans to open a new restaurant and cocktail bar at 37 Bedford Street, fittingly named thirty7.
As featured in the Michelin Guide, The Oystermen has been consistently hailed for pairing impeccable customer service, delicious British Seafood and a laid-back ambiance reminiscent of the Cornish Coast, since its opening in 2017.
thirty7 will be Hampton & Lovell’s third hospitality venue within the Covent Garden estate, having opened the doors to wine shop and bar, Bedford Street Wines, in late 2021. Coined as one of Covent Garden’s best kept secrets, the wine shop is just a stone’s throw away from their new venture on the same street.
Renowned for pairing informal spaces with culinary excellence, Hampton & Lovell are working alongside Peagreen Studio on the design for thirty7 and – in keeping with their hands-on-approach to management – have spent the last few weeks wearing steel capped boots and yellow helmets, tearing out the remnants of a health foods store in anticipation of the build.
Mood boards for the restaurant include exposed brick walls, burnt orange accents and the soft glow of industrial light fixtures, features that one might expect to find in a chic downtown Manhattan eatery.
When: 2024, further details to be announced in due course.
