The Grand Hotel Brighton Nears Completion Of £16.2m Refurbishment

One of Brighton’s most historic seafront hotels, The Grand Brighton has unveiled part of its ongoing spectacular £16.2m refurbishment, bringing a new wave of luxury to this famous building


To date, the hotel has already completed the refurbishment of the majority of its bedrooms since work commenced back in January 2024, with all 205 rooms, which stretch across seven floors, announced for completion in March 2025.

Set along the iconic Brighton seafront, The Grand Brighton was officially opened on 21 July 1864 to great fanfare and celebrated as the original ‘Palace By The Sea’. The now famous building was revered as a feat of Victorian architectural brilliance, masterfully designed by the celebrated architect John Whichcord Jr. Brighton’s newest hotel boasted an impressive facade, ornate interiors, famously outstanding service, the very first lift outside of London – then referred to as ‘vertical omnibuses’.

Today, the 160-year-old walls house 205 beautifully designed rooms stretching over seven floors and set around the original dramatic sweeping staircase, Cyan Brighton restaurant, the Victoria Bar & Lounge and the Victoria Terrace, as well as meeting and banqueting space.

Guests staying at the hotel will find themselves in proximity to Brighton’s famous attractions, including the Grade I listed Royal Pavilion and Garden, the iconic West Pier, and the lively Brighton Palace Pier.

Working with award-winning interior designers, Garuda Design, each gorgeously redesigned bedroom takes a step into the future while honouring the hotel’s intricate past. Built with the guest experience in mind, the new bedroom design reflects The Grand Brighton’s rich history with a timeless quality, ensuring a legacy that resonates with the next generation of travellers.

The newly designed rooms feature luxurious wallpaper, local artwork and handpicked books and accessories to add a touch of personality, while soft, calming hues inspired by the sea and sky offer guests a luxurious haven of relaxation.

From stunning suites to fabulous Feature Rooms boasting invigorating sea views, each room seamlessly blends with the building’s beautiful architecture, creating a fresh and tranquil ambience, while delivering a strong sense of place that is rooted in the joy and history of Brighton’s iconic seafront.

Wellness is also at the core of this transformation. The major refurb will also an introduction of a state-of-the-art gym and luxurious spa to elevate the guest experience even further, which is due to be completed in March 2025.
