Charmingly chic – The Wordrobe’s Sophie Ritchie indulges with a stay at the boutique Boskerris Hotel, Cornwall

It’s not often you find a hotel that feels like home. But the Boskerris Hotel, a petite property nestled high on a hilltop in Carbis Bay does exactly that. Run by husband and wife team Marianne and Jonathan Bassett, the Boskerris Hotel is a cosy Cornish bolthole filled with boutique charm throughout.

Warm and welcoming, the attentive service stands out immediately – as do the comfortably chic interiors. Step over the Cornish threshold and find yourself in the middle of the Mediterranean, with a spacious lounge area filled with graceful furnishings, large terrace and a petite modern restaurant dishing out south European style bites, open every day bar Tuesday.

The trendy family-run property is a 20-minute trek from St Ives, with a handy train station nearby for those that prefer a speedier route. Culture vultures are in luck as there’s plenty to explore nearby – from St Ives’ branch of the Tate Gallery to a stunning Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden. If peckish, pitstop at SILCo. Searoom or Alba Restaurant.

The room

Petite in size, there’s only 15 individually decorated rooms to choose from at this small hideaway. These range from Classic and Superior to the Celebration Suite – a rather grand affair complete with an inviting sunken bath.

I stayed in a Superior room – which offered luxurious details in the form of a superking bed, walk in rain shower and exquisitely panoramic views of St. Ives Bay. Vast in size (impressive considering how large the bed was) this stylish space offered simple yet elegant interiors with chic artwork dotted throughout.

As well as a contemporary bathroom filled with White Company toiletries, the bright and airy room offered handy little extras in the form of soft fluffy bathrobes, bottled mineral water and the essential slippers. Shoes off – let the relaxing begin.

The food

Get your Mediterranean fix with a meal at the hotel’s on-site restaurant. Open six days a week (it’s shut on Tuesday) the team champion locally sourced produce and fresh ingredients.

The food here is ‘simple and unfussy’ with dishes ranging from a light Mixed beetroot salad, crumbled feta and basil to a heartier Sage & garlic gnocchi, swiss chard and squash. Don’t forget dessert – there’s everything from Chocolate & Amoretti cake to a Mango and passionfruit mess on offer.

Breakfast is an equally laid-back yet delectable experience. Served from 8.30am onwards, pop downstairs for a feast filled with fresh bread, mountains of fruit, hot plates and more.

The verdict

As Walt Disney himself once said, “There’s no magic in magic, it’s all in the details.”  When it comes to beautiful boutique stays, The Boskerris Hotel is a gem find. Friendly and luxurious, visit for a taste of the Mediterranean lifestyle with a comfortable Cornish twist.
