Review: Skylight London

Kellie Erm skates up an appetite at Skylight London’s new winter terrace

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and Skylight London has decked the terrace with Europe’s only rooftop ice rink overlooking the iconic city skyline.

New to this year’s winter rooftop are the cosy igloos and huts for guests to mimic an après ski with warming mulled wine and ciders.

Wandering through the underground parking lot, climbing what seems to be a never-ending staircase, guests hit the jackpot when reaching the top of the building in Tobacco Docks. Guests can enjoy the glimmering lights and spectacular view while sitting under the pergola, watching the ice skaters of all levels swirl around.

If the cold gets too much, guests can enter the see through igloos that have been introduced to the rooftop this season, where one can enjoy a warm mulled wine while gazing out at the flickering lights of the city.

The beauty of the Skylight Rooftop is that it is located in the Tobacco Docks, not only allowing for some peace from the buzz of the capital, but allows for the possibility for a bit of stargazing.

The Food

All those pirouettes and backflips are sure to rack up an appetite, and with a choice of the warming alpine Raclette Brothers and Greek-inspired Yiro wraps, you’ll be happy it did. With the crisp cold winds, my guest and I agree that the right way to go is to fill our stomachs with warm melted cheese and head down to the Raclette brothers.

The uber trendy videos that have been spamming your Instagram, of melted cheese being scraped off enormous wheels of cheese do not disappoint, and guaranteed that you will be there filming your dish being prepared.

I opt for the pork schnitzel bun, while my guests goes for the beef bourguignon, both of course accompanied by crispy French fries with an extra raclette scraping on top (for the ‘gram of course…).

The bourguignon was rich and paired well with the raclette, unfortunately the schnitzel was a bit on the dry side, making the cheese work a little overtime to moisten the bun.

Although I am a bit of a Bambi on ice, the rooftop is a great place for a Christmas drinks, and with the spectacular views, the perfect place to take any London visitors.
