A night on the ‘tune’ – Helen Wilcock enjoys an evening of musical action with a Grease-themed experience at SingEasy in Soho

When watching my favourite musical, it is almost guaranteed that I will be singing along (loud and proud) with my friends. So, when I heard about SingEasy screening Grease, it was something we definitely couldn’t miss out on.

The Venue

SingEasy is located within the Piano Works in London’s busy West End. The Piano Works, formerly Studio 88, is an amazing live music venue where the audience requests all of the music played by amateur musicians.

SingEasy is hidden away in a separate speakeasy style area where the audience is greeted by singing waiters and hosts who encourage everyone to get involved and sing along to the songs that they have requested.

The Experience

Good news if you’re a foodie. Everyone who attends SingEasy goes to the movies can order tipples from a well-stocked bar, as well as nimble canapés which are served prior to the movie starting.

Tuck into miniature versions of everyone’s favourites including steak pies, burgers and prawn toast.

The evening began with a piano host who, alongside the waiters, performed songs requested by the audience. The soundtrack for the start of the night is dictated by the guests, resulting in a different experience each night.

We were then introduced to our Grease duo hosts, both of whom were clearly big fans of the film and suitably got us all in the mood for a movie singalong. Expect an extremely interactive vocal warm up (definitely not an evening for anyone who is shy!).

Then it came time for the film to start. By this point, everyone was in great spirits and excited to singalong to one of the most popular movies ever created – the atmosphere was electric (almost Grease lightning worthy).

Projected onto a large screen for everyone to see with lyrics for each song it was great to be able to singalong with fellow audience members and trained singers alike. You will definitely never be able to watch Grease in the same way again, which is not a bad thing!

The Wordrobe Verdict

The hosts and waiters did a wonderful job of getting everyone involved and helping the audience enjoy a great evening.

From Grease to The Greatest Showman, SingEasy showcases everyone’s favourite singalong movies. So warm up the vocal cords and get ready for a night on the tune.
