Simple, quiet and spiritual. If you haven’t visited St. Leonard’s Forest near Horsham yet, here’s why you should.

I’m fortunate enough to travel around the world on a fairly regular basis for work, but when I’m home, a simple West Sussex weekend never fails to inspire me. I’m often asked why I don’t live in London and well, when I have forests like this on my doorstep, it’s not hard to see why. Sussex is beautiful.

I’ve been coming here for years and never get tired of it. A gentle walk that takes roughly around an hour, here’s why a stroll to St. Leonard’s Forest, near Horsham makes the perfect chilled out Sunday…

1 It’s beautiful, no matter the season
Come rain or shine, spring or winter, this forest stays as pretty as ever. Part of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it’s ideal for an afternoon of strolling, even when the puddles are out.

2 It’s full of folklore
In 1614, a pamphlet was published in London with the rather alarming news that a large serpent or dragon was apparently living in St. Leonard’s Forest. Don’t expect to see a serpent anytime soon, but you will find plenty of quirky dragon motifs throughout – keep a lookout for the carved wooden bench.

3 There’s something for everyone
Whether you prefer hiking or horse riding, running or jaunting, there’s something for everyone to try here. I love that you pass so many different people – and dogs, of course.

I’ll let the photos do the talking – it doesn’t get much more tranquil than this.
