How to Make Sure You Have Some ‘Me Time’ on a Family Holiday

Jetting off into the sun soon? Enjoy the best of both worlds and discover a few ways you can still carve out some ‘me time’ while you are on a holiday with children

Embarking on a holiday with your family is one of the most fun and rewarding things you could do together. However, family holidays can often be quite hectic, and it’s important that you try and find a healthy balance between keeping your children occupied and also finding time for you to relax and enjoy some well-deserved alone time.

The below are just a few ideas for ways you can carve out some ‘me time’ while you are on a holiday with your family:

Plan your activities

If you want to make sure that your children are entertained on your family holiday, then planning out your days is a great way to achieve this. You want a holiday that ticks all the boxes and is packed full of activities for young and old to enjoy.

Booking a family activity holiday will mean there is something for everyone to enjoy. From mountain biking and family-friendly hikes to water sports and games of tennis, booking a holiday which includes these sorts of activities will ensure your children are kept busy and can make the most of having fun on your trip.

Make some plans just for you

Many hotels and resorts offer activities that cater to both children and adults, providing a range of adult-only options where parents can enjoy some alone time while their children are entertained elsewhere. A Neilson Active Holidays survey revealed that 49% of 1,000 UK parents feel guilty about wanting to do their own thing without their kids during family holidays. However, it is important to remember that the need for “me time” on a family holiday is normal and should not be a source of guilt.

Why not think about making some time for yourself by booking a calming spa treatment or joining an exercise class? Or simply carve out a couple of hours where you can go and relax by the pool with a new book and a fancy cocktail. Whatever you decide, make sure you plan to enjoy some well-deserved downtime on your break.

Find a hotel with a kids club

Another great way to make sure you can have some time to yourself on your trip and know your children will never be short of things to do to keep them occupied is to plan a family holiday in a hotel that has a kids club.

In a kids club, children will be spoilt for choice with fun-filled activities, all under the supervision of a dedicated team who will keep them safe. With playgrounds and swimming pools designed just for children, they can enjoy hours having fun in the sun while you can relax.

Kids clubs also often have activities included that run into the evenings, so you and your partner can go and enjoy a peaceful, romantic evening just the two of you.

The above are just a few ideas for ways you can carve out precious alone time while also still enjoying making memories that will last a lifetime with your loved ones.
