A gorgeously premium resort boasting sunshine and sophistication, Grand Velas Riviera Maya provides the perfect gourmet getaway in the very heart of Mexican paradise – even though it’s only half an hour away from Cancun Airport.
The sense of secluded tranquility is clear even from first arriving at the impressive wide stone entrance, which welcomes guests to their escape from reality with sparkling pools of water and a long winding drive.
Positioned far back from the outside main road is the beautiful Grand Class, one of the three different buildings found at the resort and my home for the week. Open to adults only, the award-winning Grand Class boasts beautiful ocean views from every angle – with spacious suites that lead straight onto the awaiting pristine white beach.
With only 90 oceanfront suites, it emulates the feel of a luxury boutique hotel. Its 1,100 square-foot rooms are vast and much larger than those of a usual hotel. With contemporary swivel flat-screen TVs, inviting king-size beds and living areas offering comfortable seating, they’re ideal for unwinding.
It’s the little touches though, that make my room so impressively inviting. From a welcoming platter of personalised sweet treats to handy mosquito repellent and an array of pampering beauty products, you’ll immediately feel at home – even when you’re thousands of miles from the clouds of the UK.
The food
Not only relaxing, it’s a total foodie paradise. When you picture all-inclusive holidays, the typical boring buffet and mass produced meals can often spring to mind. However, this Leading Hotel of the World breaks any previous assumptions about going all-inclusive — the food is exceptional.
Grand Velas boasts not one but an impressive eight restaurants within its walls. From a taste of France at Pilaf to authentic Mexican delicacies at Frida, guests can choose from a range of differing cuisines from around the world. There’s no shortage of flavours to try – and every dining spot is styled with its own unique elegant decor.
Whilst all the eateries offer delicious food, the resort’s jewel, Cocina de Autor, is an edible experience not to be missed. The restaurant holds the AAA Five Diamond Award (the equivalent of two Michelin stars) and uses science to serve a blend of Mexican and Basque dishes.
Every course is a form of culinary art – from trout rind with avocado and pickled pork to venison mole, dishes are presented beautifully and taste equally as good.
