If Pancake Day is one of your annual highlights, you’re in luck. Not only delicious, consuming a stack of pancakes is actually great for your hair! Resident Trichologist at Absolute Collagen, Eva Proudman, tells us why
Nourish the mind, body… and hair this Pancake Day. The classic pancake recipe consists of a few key ingredients; flour, milk and eggs – and eggs are the superstar ingredient for hair health.
Eggs are a superfood in their own right, containing small amounts of almost every vitamin and mineral required by our bodies, as well as antioxidants. They are a fantastic source of protein, with 12 grams in 2 large eggs – which works out at around 25% of your daily protein requirement and is just what your hair needs to thrive.
Eggs support keratin production, which helps form the main structure of the hair. Eggs are also a good source of B Vitamins and the vitamin Biotin in particular, is known to promote healthy hair, skin and nails. Biotin helps protect the hair from dryness, increases the hair’s elasticity and helps to prevent breakage.

Meanwhile, Vitamin B5 (also known as Panthenol) helps to hydrate and nourish the hair and Vitamin B2 helps to convert protein into energy to help support hair growth – and all of these important B Vitamins are found in eggs!
And the best bit about pancakes… the toppings. Did you know adding lemon or orange juice to your pancakes can support iron absorption? Loading them with fresh fruits such as strawberries and blueberries help to up the antioxidant content, but also delivers a boost of Vitamin C and Folic Acid – all great for general health but even better for hair!
So this year, celebrate Pancake Day in delicious style and give your hair an absolute feast of protein, vitamins and minerals.
