Cecconi’s Now Open At Bicester Village

Bringing a fresh taste of northern Italy to the Oxfordshire countryside, Cecconi’s is now open and welcoming hungry guests at Bicester Village

If there’s one thing better than a day of shopping, it’s a day of shopping fuelled by Italian cuisine. Just in time for those December pre-Christmas swiping sprees, Bicester Village and Soho House & Co have announced the exciting opening of Cecconi’s at the luxury shopping destination.

Offering walk-in service only, the classic-contemporary restaurant brings a fresh taste of northern Italy to the Oxfordshire countryside, giving fans of the original Cecconi’s in Mayfair good reason to venture beyond the British capital – which is reachable in just under an hour from London Marylebone.

The sleek new eatery joins farmshop restaurant & cafe, also owned by Soho House & Co, and found just a few doors down. Inside however, that’s where the similarities end – interiors are glamorously modern, featuring walls of coral pink in the main restaurant and delicate, cream hues in the smaller adjacent room.

Red leather-backed chairs add to the experience, with powder blue banquet seating for a contrasting effect. Filled with hustle and bustle, it’s the sort of place to order a glass of wine and a plate of your favourite pasta with a friend, and simply swill the afternoon away – unless of course, you’re on a strict shopping schedule.

Founded in 1978 by Enzo Cecconi, general manager of the famous Cipriani in Venice, Cecconi’s brought to  London the theatricality of food and the spectacle of five-star hospitality so loved by the Italian cognoscenti.  The restaurant was an overnight success and a magnet for both celebrities and royalty (a waiter recalls serving members of four different royal families on four different tables one lunchtime during Ascot week). Thus, its luxurious and stylish ambience makes the perfect match for the surrounding designer outlets.

In 2005, Soho House & Co took ownership of the Mayfair restaurant and, after popular demand, opened sister restaurants in West Hollywood, Miami,  Istanbul, Berlin, Barcelona, New York and Mumbai.

Just like its other sibling venues, the latest Cecconi’s aims to focus as much on service and ambience as it does on using the finest ingredients – when I visit for the much-anticipated launch, I find myself ushered into the space like a dear friend, my glass topped up faster than you can say “red or white“.

On the menu, think handmade pastas, oven-baked pizzas, fresh seafood and cicchetti and wholesome, seasonal mains. If you’re a vegan, don’t fret either – there’s a thoughtful selection of plant-based soups, salads and dishes to whet your appetite. The Grilled cauliflower with salsa rossa is particularly excellent, charred to perfection and dressed to impress.

Nick Jones, Founder and CEO of Soho House & Co, commented: “Italian food is loved around the world, and for nearly  20 years, our members and guests have enjoyed Cecconi’s authentic Venetian food and warm hospitality.  Bringing this much-loved restaurant and pizza bar to Bicester Village for locals and shoppers to enjoy is an  exciting moment for Cecconi’s in the UK.”

José Luis Duran, CEO of Value Retail Europe, also told The Wordrobe “Soho House & Co shares our belief that hospitality is the  key to outstanding experience. We welcome Cecconi’s passion, attention to detail and rigour in delivering  memorable experiences. The opening of the restaurant marks an exciting new chapter for our founding  Village.”
