Keswick-based inn, The Royal Oak, has reopened its doors following a transformative £1.1million makeover – and to celebrate, The Wordrobe has teamed up with Thwaites to offer one lucky reader the chance to win an overnight stay in the Lake District complete with all the trimmings
A staycation is calling. Thwaites – the hospitality group that owns the inn – closed The Royal Oak’s doors in March in order to give it a new lease of life, with major upgrades to all areas of the property as part of the £1.1million project.
With interiors designed by Nanu Group, the new-look inn features cosy corners for walkers to tuck into after a busy day exploring nearby fells, a new snug area and restaurant, and a roaring slate fire, while drinkers can enjoy a Thwaites cask ale at the new bar.
The charming inn brings together heart-warming hospitality and home-cooked food made from scratch, with the new restaurant serving up hearty dishes made from locally sourced ingredients including a meat sharing plate, Thwaites original steak and ale pie, and a mussels and Thai broth.
Located right in the heart of Keswick, The Royal Oak also has 18 bedrooms for those staycation-ing in the Lake District. Also benefitting from a full refurbishment, the bedrooms are set to welcome guests from June, with future bookings being taken now.
The upgrades incorporate Thwaites’ cosy signature style and home comforts, with quirky interiors nodding to its rural location and 18th Century heritage. Details include bespoke robes and country chic en-suite bathrooms which combine pops of colour with luxury amenities, including toiletries from Cumbrian-based fragrance and natural skincare brand, Bath House.
A warm welcome also awaits canine companions at this dog-friendly inn, with four-legged friends welcome at the bar and in the rooms overnight. They’ll even be treated to their own comfy bed and pack of goodies as part of Thwaites’ ‘Waggy Tails’ welcome package.
