Calling all gourmands. Taking place on 30 September, renowned restaurateur Ellen Chew will be hosting an exclusive ‘Dream of Shanghai’ supper club with special guest chef Jason Li
Featuring decadent cocktails and a number of exciting dishes, the evening will take place at Shan Shui, her restaurant inspired by the glamour of 1920s Shanghai, located in the heart of luxury open-air shopping destination Bicester Village in Oxfordshire.
Guest Chef Jason Li – renowned in the UK as an ambassador of Shanghainese food and culture – will be sizzling his way into the kitchen to create platefuls of culinary delights during this exclusive supper club.
The menu is set to include:
● Starters: Crispy Aromatic Duck with Pancake Wraps, Shanghainese Cucumber Salad, Mouthwatering Chicken and Chef Li’s Aubergine Salad.
● Mains: Shanghainese Braised Wheat Gluten with Mushrooms, Red Beef Braised with Chilli Bean Paste, Braised Mushrooms with Broccoli and Kung Pao King Prawns.
● Desserts: White fungus with Osmanthus and Red Date Broth, Salted Egg Golden Lava Bao.
Li, who works in a five-star hotel by day, curates these exclusive under-the-radar supper clubs by night. He has previously worked at Hakkasan and a number of other top-tier London establishments such as Min Jiang at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington and The Dorchester on Park Lane.
For almost two decades he has honed his craft creating menus for private dinners and has gained a loyal following for his supper clubs. Jason’s love for cooking started at a young age, when he would help his mother in the kitchen as she hosted private dinners for celebrities including Jackie Chan and Sir David Tang.

“I am very excited to be collaborating with Shan Shui at Bicester Village to create a special supper club, especially because I have the opportunity to share my Shanghai style of cooking and offer all those hungry guests a taste of some of the seasonal specialities during the Mid- Autumn Festival,” said Chef Li.
Founder and Director of Shan Shui restaurant, Ellen Chew, said, “We’ve been fans of Chef Jason’s food for many years. It’s truly an honour to showcase the wonderful flavours of true Shanghainese cooking to foodies in the UK.”
The inspiration for Shan Shui came from 1920s Shanghai, which in its heyday was the place to be for art, architecture, dance halls and glitzy restaurants. Shan Shui offers an experience reminiscent of Old Shanghai where female celebrities had poise and impeccable fashion sense. The ‘Dream of Shanghai’ Supper Club will be partnering with MCM for the event. MCM will donate a leather embossed crossbody purse, worth £495, to a raffle draw.
