Ideal for animal lovers this summer, London Zoo has teamed up with the yoga gurus at East of Eden to offer a special series of classes with some rather unusual neighbours…
Forget puppy yoga – this summer, it’s all about the penguin. Taking place throughout the warmer months, get ready to ground yourself on a yoga mat with a closeup view of London Zoo’s colony of over 60 Humboldt penguins swimming and enjoying their evening.
Class starts once the Zoo is closed, so you can relax in the quiet and stillness that bears only the surrounding sounds of wildlife, under a canopy of greenery. Ideal for switching off and soaking up the ambience, extra time is made available for you to enjoy the setting and see the penguins up close before the class begins.
A one-hour vinyasa yoga class will then be delivered by the experts from East of Eden. The class flows with the rhythms of nature, so that you can fully immerse in where you are. They welcome people of all abilities; from those who have never tried yoga before to experienced yogis who want to try something a little different. All you need is a water bottle and yoga mat.
To top off the evening, a zookeeper and presenter will feed the penguins whilst they tell you a little bit more about the incredible Humboldt penguin – did you know that they don’t come from the Antarctic, but from the temperate coastline of Peru and Chile? Or that penguins are incredibly inquisitive animals with distinct individual personalities? There will also be an opportunity at the end to ask experts lots of questions too.
