Sanjuna Budhani experiences the inaugural Games Night at The Table Battersea for an evening of game play meets moreish plates
Foodie paradise
Beyond the Art Deco chimneys of Battersea Power Station and the verdant plains of Battersea Park, Battersea is becoming a bit of a place to be for foodies. Located on Battersea Rise, The Table is one of those restaurants that’s quickly making a name for itself, you may have seen their pillowy stacks of pancakes popping up on your social media.
And now as the weather is getting warmer and days are getting longer, The Table Battersea are hosting a monthly board games night so diners can spend an evening strategising over Monopoly Deal, dig deep into their memories to answer 90s TV trivia, or come to terms with their friend’s sense of humour with Cards Against Humanity.
All accompanied, of course, with The Table’s delicious fare. I had the opportunity to go along and experience the inaugural Games Night.
Let the games begin
Bright champagne hued interiors greeted us as we entered, and we were quickly met by our hostess who showed us to our table and gave us a quick overview of the Games Night. A healthy selection of board games were available for us to sift through, a mix of old-school classics like Connect 4 to newer editions like Uno: All Wild Cards, a ridiculous version of Uno that ends, to no great surprise, almost immediately every time.
We kicked off the evening and got the competitive juices flowing with their signature cocktails. I chose the Picante Margarita, a riff on the classic margarita but concocted with a smoky, almost savoury mezcal and my companion ordered a Scottish Negroni, delicately sweet and citrusy. We picked up Connect 4 for a bit of nostalgic fun while we waited for our dishes.
A meal for every occasion
With a mixture of small plates, nibbles, and larger sharing options, the menu at The Table works for a bunch of occasions. Perfectly grilled prawns with garlic and chili and moreish grilled sausage with an addictive caramelised onion sauce whet our appetites before we dug into the sizeable fillet of herb crusted salmon, flaky and topped with a crunchy and fresh breadcrumb. Another round of drinks were ordered, a particularly jammy Malbec and a generous peach bellini.
With a mixture of date nights, friends catching up and a big group celebrating joining us on the first night, Games Night at The Table is a great option for a mid-week activity with friends, and with a little courage, you can end the night playing with some new friends. We even managed a few rounds of Monopoly Deal before the obligatory accusations of foul play started.
The Games Night runs on the first Wednesday of every month at The Table Battersea branch, so if you’re after some good ol’fashioned fun or after a different kind of midweek activity then book now.
