London’s Best Fashion Exhibitions To Visit This Weekend

I don’t know about you, but I can’t resist a fashion exhibition. There’s just something about spending an entire afternoon strolling through a gallery with a cappuccino in hand, taking it all in and finding new inspiration.

If you’re like me, keep reading for the best current and upcoming fashion exhibitions to visit in London. From the fascination with hair to underwear through the ages, here’s a few that are seriously worth viewing.

1 Hair by Sam McKnight

I had the pleasure of visiting this not so long ago – and can firmly say this fabulous exhibition was worth every penny. Taking place to celebrate Sam McKnight’s remarkable 40-year career from the late 1970s to the current day, expect plenty of interactive, visual displays – as well as an array of fashion’s favourite faces throughout. The pink-themed Chanel section was particularly gorgeous.

2  Undressed: A Brief History of Underwear

Pop along to the V&A to learn more about the fascinating and sometimes controversial story of underwear design from the 18th century to the present day. Pants through the ages – expect plenty of fabrics, fits and social ideologies. It’s open until 9.30pm on Fridays – ideal for a post-work peruse.

3 Diana: Her Fashion Story at Kensington Palace

Calling all Princess Di fans – there’s a fashion exhibition dated to the late princess coming to London very soon. Trace the evolution of the Princess’s style, from the demure, romantic outfits of her first public appearances, to the glamour, elegance and confidence of her later life.

4 The International Fashion Showcase

Even if you’re not attending the London Fashion Week shows, you can still enjoy a taste of the nation with the International Fashion Showcase, courtesy of the British Fashion Council and British Council. Hosted at Somerset House, it’ll gives a glimpse of 25 different up and coming designers from 25 different countries – and it’s completely free too.

5 The World of Anna Sui

Anna Sui is the epitome American fashion designer. From Detroit to New York, her signature rock-n-roll romanticism has reinvented pop culture for every new generation.

This cool exhibition, open from May onwards, showcases over 100 looks from the designer’s archive – from Surfers and School Girls to Hippies, Mods and Punks.
