It’s not everyday you wake up with a fishing hole in your hotel room.
I recently stayed at Spitbank Fort, a boutique luxury hotel in the middle of the Solent for the magazine I work for, and it was easily one of the coolest stays, ever. Once a man-made fort full of soldiers and guns, it’s now a converted five star luxury hotel.
You have to get a boat across the harbour just to check in – and when you arrive, the exploration is endless. We were given a brief history tour when we first docked up, which featured peering into many of the rooms and crevices.
My personal highlight of the tour was a rather witty elderly gentleman, who saw the enormous brush cleaners for the old guns and quipped “I hate to think what the loos are like.”
With only eight bedrooms, Spitbank is utterly teeny – and totally amazing. The rooftop hot pool definitely did the job – as did the numerous Champagne bars!
My own room was enormous and even came complete with a fishing rod and hole, should I be angling for a catch.
I was also invited to join a quartet of couples’ table for dinner too, which was so nice of them – we ended up swapping hotel, chef and restaurant stories for the night.
What a great experience.
Enjoy the photos…
