This is a building which is sure to appeal to history lovers – the former coaching inn dates back to the 15th Century and it was given its current name sometime after the battle of Blenheim in 1704.

Today, the property has been sympathetically refurbished to blend old and new and many of the original features remain intact – the history of the place is evident throughout, including the impressive marble fireplace which has been extensively carved with graffiti by visitors over the centuries.

More importantly, it’s just the spot for an indulgent break – with individually styled en-suite bedrooms and a bar area adorned with two fireplaces, which makes an appealing place for evening drinks.

Ready to relax, I checked into a spacious suite complete with kitchen and dining area, king sized bed and bathroom with bath and walk-in shower. My abode for the night, I settle in and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Feeling refreshed after a restful night, the next morning I head down to the attractive dining room where I peruse a menu of classic cooked breakfasts, alongside options such as pancake stacks and smashed avocado on toast.

It is also worth noting that there is parking on-site too and The Marlborough Arms can also host private events for up to 100 guests.

Although we only stayed for one night, the relaxed atmosphere and tranquil surroundings made us want to linger. Throughly charmed by the blend of history and warm hospitality, if you need to recharge your batteries, this attractive hideaway is not to be missed.
