Haute off the press! Taking its name from the altitude of the French ski resort of Avoriaz, here’s everything a snow bunny needs to know about the new Hôtel MiL8 at 1,800m
A chic alpine hotel, the new Hôtel MiL8 is the highest and (most snow-sure) property in the famed Portes du Soleil area.
Fittingly positioned in the avant-garde resort created in 1966 as a fantasy-inspired getaway, the property’s contemporary doors will open to ski-hungry guests in December.
With 42 spacious rooms and suites, luxe travellers will enjoy an inviting, contemporary feel with shimmering fabrics and ultra-modern furnishings.
Due to the hotel’s design, each room is individual, clad in light birch wood – reflecting the local, natural, alpine environment.
Parisian interior designers Catherine and Jérôme Clermont from Atelier Obermant have mirrored the hotel’s architecture, which plays on the contrast between curves and right angles. It also features the combination of materials such as warm wood, leather and wool, and raw, urban concrete and steel.
Inspired by the surrounding nature, renowned local architect Hervé Marullaz has created a butterfly-shaped structure that is at once in keeping and unique.
Like a fan adorned with spacious balconies, the design allows guests stunning, panoramic views over the snow-topped roofs and peaks of this charming village resort. The hotel’s silver-grey larch façade blends with the traditional wooden tiles that characterise the facades and roofs of Avoriaz.
Inside awaits an infinity pool, sauna, gym and massage room – with products courtesy of organic skincare brand SNÖ eternelle, created by Olympic Silver medallist skier Raphaëlle Monod.
Hôtel MiL8’s two restaurants include one at piste level for lunchtime skiers, while the ground floor space is a more intimate place for dinner, enhanced with wood-clad walls discreet lighting and plenty of locally-sourced fare.
