Enjoy dinner with a royally thrilling twist at Borthwick Castle this festive season
Forget the ordinary Christmas parties. Located near Edinburgh, luxurious private hire venue Borthwick Castle has teamed up with Linlithgow-based company, Eeek! Escape Rooms to launch the ultimate tabletop festive dining experience.
Ideal for history buffs and thrill seekers alike, ‘Escape Dining’ at Borthwick Castle combines the popular trend for escape rooms with the 15th century Castle’s most regal of guests, Mary Queen of Scots.
Guests can enjoy a series of thrilling challenges during the special evenings, which will all take place around a shared festive banquet filled with seasonal delights.
With period-inspired dishes set to include Fine tart of woodland mushrooms and tarragon, sweetbreads and poached corn fed chicken, as well as Pear, ginger & mead sorbet, there’s plenty to whet a Ye Olde appetite.
How it works
Escape Dining guests will be divided into teams at the table, competing against each other to solve the most testing of puzzles by candlelight.
Adding to the enchantment, the games will be hosted under the very same vaulted ceiling of the Castle’s Great Hall where Mary Queen of Scots was forced to ‘escape’ approaching troops by lowering herself through a window some, 450 years ago.
Requiring oodles of out of the box thinking, guests will search for answers in plain sight and solve challenging riddles collectively in order to unlock the next clue. The quest? To become the Lord of the Castle.
Up to 40 guests can participate in for this Eeek! Dining Experience, whilst 26 guests can enjoy a stay in one the thirteen individually styled bed chamber – with many featuring roll-top baths, four-poster beds and sumptuous furnishings.
