Following the success of his Mayfair restaurant, Kanishka, Michelin-starred chef Atul Kochhar is set to open ‘Mathura’ in Westminster this autumn
Kochhar’s second restaurant in the heart of London’s beating capital, the new venue takes its name after a sacred capital city of King Kanishka, an emperor of the Kushan dynasty in the second century.
Full of regal touches, the 200 cover restaurant and bar will be housed in the former Westminster Fire Station – an impressive 5000 square foot site.
A blend of both an existing Grade II listed building and a new build, the property is mixed-use residential project from design-led development managers Alchemi Group.
When it comes to the interiors, Rosendale Design, the interior designers behind the likes of The Game Bird, The Ninth and Cabotte, have been appointed to oversee the project and bring the eatery to life.
Mathura is a collaborative project with Tina English, a recognised innovator of London’s Indian dining scene with whom Kochhar successfully opened Kanishka earlier in 2019.
Foodies can expect the signature Indian flair for which Kochhar is known, with a menu making the most of locally sourced British produce as well as several unique and unexpected elements – distinguishing it from his previous restaurants.
Specialising in Indian cuisine and a celebrated restaurateur, television personality and cookery book author, Kochhar was the very first Indian chef in the world to receive a Michelin star at the acclaimed Tamarind of Mayfair in 2001.
