My foodie adventures continue – I recently sampled a menu full of signature Italian offerings at Brunello, the exquisite restaurant tucked away in The Baglioni Hotel…
It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for all things Italian – especially when it comes to mouth-watering cuisine. Luckily, Brunello, the Baglioni hotel’s elegant dining spot offers a taste of Tuscany, sip of Sorrento and a flash of Florence all under one roof.
I visit on a sunny afternoon to sample flavours from the summer menu – think authentic Italian dishes, all created under the eye of Executive Chef Alberto Rossetti and Resident Chef Raffaele Lauriola. Anything but bland and boring, these chefs conjure magic that goes far beyond the realms of simple spaghetti.
The recently restyled Brunello bar and restaurant is equally full of attention to detail – spherical lighting, a ceiling full of swirls and luxurious seats that are almost as comfy as I imagine the hotel’s beds to be.
Alberto Rossetti, Executive Chef, has cooked for everyone from Sophia Loren to Schumacher – I know I’m in for a treat before I’ve even folded the napkin on my lap. We begin with sesame seed tuna, a delicately arranged dish that’s cooked to the exact shade of ombre rose and garnished with a bright colour burst of carrot. It’s delicious – meaty without being too filling, with the balsamic vinegar reduction providing the exact amount of tang.
Next up is a saffron risotto that’s glistening with golden goodness. Buttery and soft, digging in feels rather like the Goldilocks dream when it comes to finding a perfectly creamy risotto. The seabass with chicory and truffle sauce for mains proves well worth saving room for however – it arrives sprinkled with crunchy pistachios, and doesn’t last long before the plate is empty.
No Italian feast could be complete without dessert, and we finish with Bendolce – an ideal burst of sweet tooth satisfaction in the form of gorgeously arranged honey, pollen, raspberry and crunchy hazelnuts. Even better, it’s the angelic calorie equivalent of two apples. Anyone for thirds?
