If the saying ‘You are what you eat‘ has any truth to it, then dig in to these skin-clearing foods to capture that coveted healthy glow

I, like every girl, suffer from bad skin everyone in a while. Usually when I’m stressed, or have been eating a little too much on the wild side.

So, here are five of the best foods to try for a little skin-boosting magic – I’ve noticed such a difference since incorporating these beauties into my everyday diet.

 1 Nuts
Research has suggested that having mineral deficiencies in zinc and selenium have been linked to acne. This is why nuts (especially good ol’ Brazil and almond nuts) are an excellent snack to have handy.

They’re full of selenium – as well as vitamin E, copper, potassium, calcium and iron, which all boost skin health.

2 Kale
If you kale for good skin, tuck into a bowl of this leafy goodness. Kale contains a wide range of vitamins A, B complex, C, E and K. It’s also packed with manganese, calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium, protein, folate and phosphorus. Now that’s a mouthful… but essentially, it’s a super food.

TIP: I love serving it crispy and hot, with a little drizzled almond butter. It’s like healthy peanut seaweed satay.

3 Water
Okay, so this isn’t technically a food, but water is one of the secret keys to good skin. I personally drink 2 – 4 litres a day – and massively notice a difference almost instantly in my skin, hair and energy when I don’t.

Water clears skin internally, and it’s also one of the cheapest ways to flush out toxins from your body. Experts recommend getting eight glasses down you a day, with more if you exercise.

4 Avocado
Avo’ go at adding avocado into your diet. This creamy green fruit is a fantastic source of vitamin E, which boosts how luminous your skin looks. Pair it with smoked salmon, spinach and fresh tomatoes for a sumptuously skin-boosting simple salad.

5 Acai
Ever tried acai before? These mini purple fruits are seen as a total superfood. They are rammed with antioxidants, which means  help to eliminate toxins and free radicals in the body. If you can’t find fresh, plenty of health stores offer them in dried or liquid form.
